Memorized by Now

I wrote these words on January 23rd, 2024. They have sat in my phone since then. The idea came to me when I found out that not everyone saves numbers in their phones…

You haven’t saved my number in your phone
Bet you got it memorized by now, though
My name doesn’t pop up on your screen
But when you look, you know it’s me

If you don’t save it, it keeps me temporary
It’s a way to protect yourself; it’s necessary
How could I be upset with you for that?
I’m not. If I were, that’d be whack.

I was thinking about it this morning when I wanted to reach out to you.

My number isn’t saved in your phone
It’s best I just leave you alone
I’m no good for you
This I know to be true

I was thinking about it this morning when I wanted to reach out…to you.

You told me to not take offense
But that didn’t stop the wince
It’s what stopped me from reaching out
Maybe I can break from this spellbound

You haven’t saved my number in your phone
Bet you got it memorized by now, though
My name doesn’t pop up on your screen
But when you look, you know it’s me
