Healing Together, a poem

Healing Together is a poem that helped in the development of my 12th novel, Paint Splattered Teardrops, which will be published this coming winter.

I saw you from across the room
In a tavern, but it wasn’t just us two
I was there for a party
You were pouring some Bacardi

I thought I’d never see you again
But then fate stepped in
My first time at group therapy
You walked in, and there was this familiarity

You had gone through a similar tragedy
I had some invisible pull to you in reality
A force that attracted my energy to yours
But that wasn’t written on any of the brochures

We were supposed to be healing together
not basking in our pleasure
But maybe healing and pleasure go hand in hand
It wasn’t like we had a love affair planned

Our morals got in the way
Guilt and shame were at play
My marriage was ending
“Here’s to new beginnings!”

I couldn’t see where my life was going after loss
But you wiped my tears with your cloth
Then our story began to unfold
A new chapter foretold
